Goodbye, summer! It’s time to transition to the next season.

When the seasons change, most of us think to swap out our closets from sun dresses and sandals to chic knits and boots. But do you think about what you need to do to stay looking and feeling your best?

If you haven’t…wake up! If the changing of the seasons means we have to change up so many of our dressing, eating, and other daily habits, of course it means you need to think about your beauty routine, too! If you want your skin to look expensive all year round, you have to make that investment.

Keep reading for my pro thoughts and must-have products for having some fun with the big transition from summer to fall and winter.

Rescue your hair!

Your hair is probably absolutely fried from the summer sun, heat, salt water, pool water, and whatever else you’ve gotten up to in the last few months, right?

Don’t worry, all our manes are struggling!

To get back on top of your hair game for the fall and winter, you gotta use Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector or the Color Wow Money Mask for deep hydration and strengthening. Nurse those strands back from the dead!

Change Up Your Hair Color & Style

Give the sun kissed higlights and summer balayage a break. Get chic for fall and winter with a fresh chocolate or dark chocolate color and a new cut or style.

I also think staying away from the beach waves or curls is best for this time of year. I’m swapping my textured waves for sleek pin-straight looks that command respect.

Get Back on the Retinol Bandwagon

Pssst…I’ll let you in on a secret. I mostly skip or significantly reduce my retinol or retinoid use in the summer. They make your skin super sensitive to the sun and you risk undoing the work your retinol or retinoid does if you’re too exposed to UV light.

For me and my skin, it works best to focus on these super exfoliators in the wintertime. I can get rid of any fresh freckles from summer and focus on getting baby fresh skin when my sun exposure is more mild.

I go with a prescription retinoid from my dermatologist, but if you’re new to the world of retinol, a great place to start is with Neutrogena’s Rapid Wrinkle Repair Cream. Use this in the evenings and don’t forget to apply SPF every day! I’m pretty devoted to Elta MD SPF 46.

Time for Extra Hydration!

Some people go as far as switching to heavier, richer cream moisturizers for the fall and winter months. If you have super dry or sensitive skin, you do you!

I don’t have the time to totally switch up my product, and I don’t really need to. If you truly practice great skincare habits, you’ll notice that your skin will start to fall more and more in the “normal” category. When you’re balanced, hydrated, and consistent, you don’t experience crazy sensitivity, oil overproduction, or inflammation very often.

I like to use an ultra hydrating serum before my moisturizer during the fall and winter. This makes me look dewy and plump, no matter what my furnace and the dry winter air try to pull.

I suggest the Maelove Hydrator B5 Gel or the Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel. B5, or pantothenic acid, has incredible anti-aging and anti-inflammatory effects on the skin. Pair it with hyaluronic acid and you have a match made in hydration heaven!

Just Say No to Old Lady Hands

It’s time for some serious hand cream peepul! No one wants crepey old lady hands.

Keeping my hands plump and hydrated is super important in the fall months and to continue throughout the winter. Just when you think you have them all fooled with your fabulous face and neck skin, there go your hands giving your actual age away!

I always recommend the StriVectin Volumizing & Rejuvenating Hand Cream or another go to brand for me, Bioderma’s Atoderm Hands & Nails Ultra Nourishing Cream.

Indulge Some Fun New Makeup Colors and Trends

Get a lit from within glow using products like Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonder Glow Primer or a recent new staple for my shelf, the Armani Beauty Fluid Sheer Glow Enhancer #10!

How about a rich, deep lip color? Lipstick is back, baby! I’m loving the Patrick Ta Beauty Major Beauty Headlines Matte Suede Lipstick in She Must Be New.

Go for blush over bronzer! Choose a color that will make your cheek color POP in a pinch like Nars’ Dolce Vita or Liberte.

Play around with some jewel toned liners and ditch the basic bitch black. Think emerald, sapphire, dark plum, aubergine…

Load up your lashes! It’s the latest trend! Just go for that 3rd or 4th coat. Live it a little…The only thing holding you back is FEAR and being stuck in a RUT!

Full bush is IN (for your brows, that is) Bushy, bold brows aren’t going anywhere any time soon. I’m soaking mine in the new Babe Lash Brow Serum and laying them in the perfect position with the Patrick Ta Beauty clear Brow Shaping Wax.
