Life as we know it has forever changed. But now that we all have an abundance of free time to spend indoors, it’s the perfect time to get crafty when it comes to our skincare routine. In these uncertain times, it’s important to really buckle down and save every penny moving forward to rebuild and survive what feels like never-ending chaos we’re in right now.
Taking all that into consideration, skincare is no longer going to be a long 10-step bougie ass routine or 50 products to complete a full face of makeup. The future of beauty is only going to consist of essential skincare items that are both affordable and effective. But hey… if you got the coin…more power to you! But based on the fact that there are over 30 million unemployed Americans, makeup will mostly be about key products to help you achieve a polished, professional face to get to work on time and keep focused on your job…
For all, you organic peeps out there looking for an all-natural remedy without chemicals or synthetics going the DIY skincare route is the only way to go mainly because ALL skincare and cosmetics products contain chemicals & synthetics whether you want to believe me or not.
Simplified and Manageable Recipes
Over the course of my 20 years in the beauty industry, I’ve learned a lot about skincare and ingredients in skincare products. What I’ve come to realize in my experience is that even one simple, straight-from-nature ingredient can do a lot more for your skin than you actually realize. <-
Some of the world’s top beauty ingredients aren’t made in a lab — they’re found in nature consisting of plants, fruits, and herbs. Many natural ingredients are packed with healing properties and health benefits. So with that being said, I’ve created the ultimate DIY skincare guide for you to alternatively try out. The skincare recipes below are “all-natural” using ingredients you already have in your kitchen to concoct an effective DIY face mask. But keep in mind, even natural ingredients can have side effects. Just because something is natural doesn’t mean that it can’t harm you. I would highly recommend doing a test patch prior to applying a full face. Better to be safe than sorry!
Yogurt
Yogurt Benefits: Yogurt is loaded with lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid and a naturally gentle exfoliant. Yogurt helps remove dead skin from the surface of the face and is also an anti-inflammatory which helps calm redness. The perfect ingredient for dry skin!
Yogurt Based DIY Mask Recipe: Mix half a cup of plain yogurt, 1 tbsp powdered raw almonds, and 1-2 tbsp honey into a bowl.Apply the mixture to a clean, dry face. Leave it on for about 15-20 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water or very gently rub in a circular motion using the crushed almonds as a scrub. Very gently!
Lemon
Lemon Benefits: Lemon juice naturally contains vitamin C, an antioxidant that can help reduce skin damage and premature aging. Due to its high pH levels, lemon can decrease oil in the skin for oily skin types. Lemon contains natural fruit acids that have the ability to naturally lighten the skin, including age spots and acne scars. Keep in mind this is a very gentle and slow process that gives you results over time, it’s not an overnight miracle.
*Please be aware that it’s common for the lemon to sting, burn or cause a little redness so please be cautious and do a test patch! If you have a sensitive skin type, I don’t recommend this mask.
Lemon Based Mask Recipe: Mix ½ Organic Lemon, 1 tbsp. Organic-Raw Honey into a bowl. Apply all over your face, avoiding the eye area. Let your skin soak up the mask for 15-30 minutes (depending on how sensitive your skin is). Wash away with warm water, finishing with one splash of cold water to close your pores. Pat gently (Don’t rub!) with a towel to dry. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer/serum and let your face breathe the rest of the day.
Tomato
Tomato Benefits: Tomato cleanses the skin and helps prevent acne & blackheads. It also reduces excess oil making it perfect for people oily skin types. Tomatoes contain lycopene, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and acts as a natural exfoliant and brightening agent.
Tomato-Based Mask Recipe: Mix 1tbsp Yogurt, 1/2 tomato pulp, 1 tsp honey, and 1tsp lemon into a bowl. Apply all over your face, avoiding the eye area. Let your skin soak up the mask for 15-30 minutes (depending on how sensitive your skin is). Wash away with warm water, finishing with one splash of cold water to close your pores. Pat gently (Don’t rub!) with a towel to dry. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer/serum and let your face breathe the rest of the day.
Cucumber
Cucumber Benefits: A cucumber is packed full of antioxidants & anti-inflammatories. In addition to vital nutrients like Vitamins A, B1, C, biotin, and potassium. Cucumber is known to lighten, brighten, hydrate, tone, and calm the skin.
Cucumber Based Mask: Mix 1/2 cold cucumber puree with peel and all. ( Keep it slightly chunky!) 2 tbsp aloe vera, 1 tbsp rose water (optional) in a bowl. The mask is packed with moisture! Apply all over your face, avoiding the eye area. Let your skin soak up the mask for 15-30 minutes. Wash away with warm water, finishing with one splash of cold water to close your pores. Pat gently (Don’t rub!) with a towel to dry. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer/serum and let your face breathe the rest of the day.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera Benefits: When you add aloe vera into any DIY mask you’ve got an especially potent recipe because aloe vera hydrates, heals, and helps reverse the aging process because it is 99% water content. Known for its cooling & soothing properties this aloe vera mask is a great recipe for sensitive skin types.
Aloe Vera Mask: Mix 1tbsp natural aloe vera plant (not bottled), 1tbsp honey, and 1tbsp Greek yogurt. Let your skin soak up the mask for 15-30 minutes (depending on how sensitive your skin is). Wash away with warm water, finishing with one splash of cold water to close your pores. Pat gently (Don’t rub!) with a towel to dry. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer/serum and let your face breathe the rest of the day.
Good skincare and a solid routine is definitely going to be the future of beauty. BTW, I’ve tried and tested these recipes growing up as a kid.
